Weaning Out of the House

Weaning Out of the House

You just begin to feel confident about weaning but you may feel like between napping and mealtimes, you're trapped in the house. Having a mealtime out of the house may be your only answer for freedom but it can be an intimidating prospect. I've gathered some of the information I've learned and used below to try and help you make those feeding experiences out of the house easier.

Baby-Led Weaning

After a few months of weaning, your child will be getting better at using their hands to feed themselves. Especially if you've taken the baby-led weaning approach. It can be a lot easier to bring finger foods out with you instead of all of the additional things that you would need to feed your child a hot meal. Think veggie sticks, fruit and sandwiches.

Hot meals

You may prefer to bring full meals out that your baby would normally eat at home. I would suggest heating them before you go out as a lot of restaurants will not heat up meals for you because of food hygiene concerns. I would suggest buying a hot food container such as this one. You will then be able to heat the meal up before you leave and keep it hot for several hours. If you can’t heat it before you go, make sure you store food in an insulated bag to keep it cool until eaten.

Keep Clean

Our bibs roll up so are easily transported for meals on-the-go to keep your child clean. They can easily be wiped-clean with a wipe. I used to bring dirty plates home in a nappy sack because I didn’t want the mess going all over the bag. I designed our Complete Weaning Set plate to have a lid. The lid is PERFECT for covering dirty plates to bring home after a meal out.
